USP L109 column: Porous graphitic carbon
Spherical porous graphitic carbon particles (about 1.5-30 um in current text; older text 3-30 um).
Mode: reversed-phase Typical pH range: 0-14 (carbon)
Typical uses
- Very polar compounds poorly retained on C18
- Isomers and closely related structures
- Separations at extreme pH or temperature
Common sizes (length x internal diameter, particle size)
- 250 x 4.6 mm, 5 um
- 150 x 4.6 mm, 3-5 um
Retention mechanism differs strongly from silica C18; strong retention of planar molecules.
